Storage units can truly resolve some of life’s moving problems especially when it comes to storing away the items that you cannot take with you when you relocate. Although you may get offers from a family or friend offering to store your items in their basement or attic, you would be better off choosing a reputable storage unit company that would ensure that your items are well protected, and kept in a clean environment. Locating storage may be the easy part but finding one that tailors to your needs is another. Here are a few things to consider when looking around for storage units.
One of the first things you would need to determine is the length of time that you would need to use the storage unit. You may be in an eviction situation and may need to call a moving company to help you move, the question would be where you would leave your household items until you find another place to live. Storage units are good for that and so the length of time you wish to leave your items in storage would determine if you would pay a higher or lower fee with the storage facility. In addition, as soon as you are quoted a price, find out if they are charging you the move-in rate or the normal rate. Move-in rates are usually lower in price as an incentive for people to move their items in; if you take such an offer, inquire about its duration as most last for a short time and then the prices go up. Some storage facilities may also require that you give them a security deposit so you would also need to put aside some money for this as well. The good thing about leaving a security deposit is that the money would be returned to you on the day that you no longer need to rent the storage unit, providing that you give the storage facilities 30 days notice. Even when you start renting the storage unit, be sure to always pay your bill on time since late fee charges may incur.
The location and operation hours of the storage facility should also be taken into consideration when you are thinking about renting storage units. You should also be sure of what type of features you may need for your storage unit as well. You may be an art collector or you may even have a few antiques in your possession. Usually these items require special storage conditions and there are actually some storage units that have climate-control features. And if you have a lot of valuable items to store such as heirlooms and art that are worth a lot of money, you should also pay the extra amount of money to ensure the safety of your storage unit. Not only should you ensure that your storage unit is well secured with sophisticated locking system, you should also find out about the kind of security systems that are in place at the storage facility.
Finally, getting your items to the storage facility may be a problem; find out if they have movers who can assist you in getting your items from point A to point B. Even if they don’t, then you can always call to get moving services elsewhere.
